In addition to live beside your aircraft, here are other advantages that an airpark offers.
- The majority of the pilots like to fly but most of them do not have enough time to fly. The average is10 hours per year per private pilot in Canada! The majority of the pilots would like to buy more than one type of aircraft but it is expensive (annual inspection, insurance, etc). To rent is sometimes impossible since non available. Also, an aircraft which does not fly means more expensive maintenance (engine, instruments, radios, etc). Aircrafts could be bought by groups of people having a shared interest. For example, a group could buy an amphibious plane, an helicopter, an aerobatic plane, a sailplane, a twin engine, etc. A person could have shares in several type of aircraft.
- Expensive accessories or equipments could be bought by a group or by the association (e.g.: color GPS with weather, satellite telephone, headphone with electronic noise reduction (ENR) of very high-quality, infra red camera (FLIR) to see at night through the clouds, the rain, dust and snow. This type of equipment is very expensive and is quickly obsolete. We hesitate to buy this kind of equipment, however so useful, because we know that we are not going to use it often. But buying wit a group reduce the costs of these equipments by much and one can learn more quickly how to make use of it as well as the tricks on how to use it.
- Subscriptions of magazines or access to the weather satellite are good examples of the items that can be bought by group. All pilots like to receive aviation magazine, but after having look at them often quickly, they are put on the side. One likes to buy books but they are expensive and take some rooms. Imagine 20 or 30 pilots doing the same thing. The clubhouse could contain a library with all these magazines and books. New technology offers weather service by satellite in the cockpits. This information is very useful when we fly. But how many time do we need this weather? It costs approximately $600 per year to receive this weather. It is a big expense for a pilot alone, but if there are several pilots the option is much more interesting. It can be very useful (life saving) to have access to a satellite telephone, but at $600 per year for the subscription, a person will think twice.
- When you are an owner on an airpark you are not a tenant at an airport. You invest. You don’t give your money away to a landlord.
